October 2013: The InterMAC project awarded at the final conference of the 4th PREDIT

The InterMAC program ("Interaction flamme-paroi dans les Moteurs à Allumage Commandé"), for which the CETHIL "Transferts Thermiques dans les Milieux Réactifs" research group worked, was awarded at the final conference of the 4th " Programme de Recherche et d'Innovation dans les Transports Terrestres" (PREDIT).This program is part of the ongoing effort of all transport sector players to reduce the environmental impact of current engines. In this context, the program focused on the role of engine walls on its operation and the production of pollutants. Indeed, in conventional controlled ignition engines (MAC), the flame is likely to reach the walls while only 30% of the fuel is consumed, which results in a high proportion of this fuel that burns in the near neighborhood of the walls. In order to improve the numerical simulation of combustion for the design of these engines, it is absolutely necessary to have a modeling of the flame-wall interaction that is adequate and efficient. The InterMAC program has therefore proposed fundamental research work aimed at defining new models for the flame-wall interaction in this type of engine, with the aim of improving predictability in terms of combustion velocity and wall thermal fluxes. In this context, CETHIL has put in place an innovative experimental approach that has provided the databases needed to validate models and improve understanding of the physical mechanisms involved in this interaction.Additional information is available on the ANR website .Contact: Cédric Galizzi, "Transferts Thermiques dans les Milieux Réactifs" Group Leader
