June 2014: 2nd Biot-Fourier Prize of the French Society of Thermal (SFT) for Romain Charnay
The Biot-Fourier Prize is awarded to the three best scientific papers at the "Société Française de Thermique" congress, based on the reports of the reviewers and the quality of the poster presentations. This year, at the annual congress held in Lyon from June 3rd to 6th, 2014, Romain Charnay received the 2nd prize for his communication entitled "Ébullition convective du R-245fa à haute température de saturation". Romain Charnay is currently ATER at CETHIL, where he previously prepared his thesis under the direction of Rémi Revellin and Jocelyn Bonjour. His research has focused on the energy efficiency of the Rankine cycles for energy recovery of truck exhaust gases through the study of the thermohydraulics of two-phase flows at high saturation temperature. He characterized the flow regimes and bubble dynamics in 3 mm mini-canals and measured, in particular, the heat transfer coefficient and the pressure drops. He particularly stressed the strong link between flow regimes and heat transfer and highlighted the persistence of boiling mechanisms for high vapor and high temperature.
