May 2016: Quentin Mouret obtains one of the prizes at the ICMF conference

The ICMF Poster Award is a prize awarded to the top three scientific posters at the International Conference on Multiphase Flow (ICMF), held every four years. This international congress, which brings together the world's leading scientists working in the field of two-phase flows, was held from May 22nd to 27th, 2016 in Florence (Italy). Quentin Mouret, PhD student at CETHIL, has been awarded one of three prestigious prizes for his poster entitled "Measurements of 3-pentanone Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) for imaging concentration of an evaporate n-heptane liquid from a porous media". This study, supported by the ANR ASTRIDE project ("Aérodynamique, Sprays et TRansitoires durant l’Injection Directe Essence"), met all the criteria to obtain the prize: originality of the study, technicality of the subject, and more generally, aesthetics and creativity of the poster. The works of Quentin Mouret, co-directed by Dany Escudié and Cédric Galizzi, are part of CETHIL's research group "Transfer in reactive Media" and focus on the development of an optical diagnostic for the quantitative concentration measurement of vapor (LIF). This diagnostic aims to describe the evaporation phenomena of combustible liquid films in complex and reactive configurations such as the combustion chamber of automotive engines. Thanks to the obtained results, it will be possible to access the measurement of local richness gradients and to understand the mechanisms acting on the evaporation of deposited liquid films, during the injection, on the walls of a spark ignition engine. These advances should also help to support the development of programs of the "large scale simulation" type, used for the design of new engine technologies.Contact: Cédric Galizzi, Head of CETHIL's "Transfert dans les Milieux Réactifs" Group
